A cheerful and inquisitive Beagle dog is the perfect companion for active people.
These animals are indefatigable in their willingness to explore the surrounding area, ride through thickets, jump, play, run for a bike, etc. Often these dogs are turned on in families with children.
Despite their independent character, the animals are notable for their patience and endless friendliness. Besides, these pets are exceptionally enduring and have no inherited health problems.
Beagle is a hound breed that has long been used for hunting hares. Dogs drove the animals and loudly notified the owners. According to one version, the name of the breed came from the French “begueule” – “tinned throat”.
The Beagles have a unique sense of smell, a strong tracking instinct and a ringing bark. Now they are often used to find explosives and banned products for import.
Dogs are always ready to eat something delicious. Owners of these pets need to strictly control their diet.
Only a balanced diet and regular exercise guarantee the proper development of the beagle and its good health. This breed of dog is cared for by periodic cleaning of the ears, wiping of the eyes and use of a brush during moulting.
Feeding Beagles Dry Food
These pets are unpretentious in their food. The choice between natural food and dry food depends on the owner. The main thing is not to mix different types of food.
If the breeder gave the dog dry food, it should be converted to natural food gradually. This makes it easier to calculate allergenic foods in the event of an allergic reaction.
Dry food is worth noting:
- Balance (good food contains optimal amount of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals for the animal’s body);
- high percentage of meat products in the composition, often several species at once;
- ease of use and storage;
- a wide range of products.
It is very important to observe the recommended feeding standards (manufacturers indicate them on the packaging). Beagles are prone to gluttony and, as a consequence, to obesity, which is fraught with health problems. Do not indulge your pet in this.
When selecting dry food, it is necessary to pay attention to its composition. Premium and super premium feeds are made from quality natural products. As a rule, they do not contain starch, preservatives, odor and taste enhancers. Good options: Royal Canin, Hills, Acana, Belcando, Orijen, Pro Plan.

Feeding beagles with natural food
Natural food must consist of:
- lean meat and by-products;
- Fermented milk products;
- cereals (oatmeal, buckwheat, wheat, rice);
- sea fish;
- vegetable food (vegetables, fruits);
- Bioadditives (vitamins and minerals).
It is important to keep the proportions: 70% – meat food, 30% – milk and vegetable. Sub-products must be boiled.
You can treat your pet with cartilage, veal tail, special cookies and cheese. You can not give fresh bread and bakery, sweets, smoked, spicy and highly salty food.
The meat should be sliced in small pieces. You can pre-cook it or just give it boiling water. Kashi should be cooked on water, meat, vegetable or fish broth. You can add some vegetable oil to the porridge.
Once a week it is allowed to give raw or boiled eggs, boiled fish without bones. It is better to feed dairy products in the morning.
Beagle feeding puppies
First of all, it is necessary to take into account what the breeder fed the puppy, and this is the first time to focus on. Next, you can either continue to give the same food, changing the appearance depending on the height and age of the dog, or gradually switch to another food. It’s important to remember that a sudden change in diet can lead to digestive problems.
It’s best to feed your puppy up to three months of ready-made food. If you decide to convert your baby to natural food, you should make sure it’s balanced. In addition, a vitamin-mineral complex is required.
As meat products it is better to choose lean fillets of veal, rabbit, poultry. They should be served boiled in the form of small pieces or minced meat. During the active growth period, the beagle needs a source of calcium – cottage cheese.
In addition, the menu may include buckwheat, oatmeal, boiled eggs and vegetables. It is recommended to give acidic and dairy products in the morning and vegetable and meat food during the day. There should be a total of four to five meals a day.
After 3 months the puppy can be converted to three to four meals a day. Cheese, breadcrumbs, fruit, fish fillets, by-products and wheat grits can be added to the diet. In case of transition to dry feed pellets should be soaked with water. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for portions.
